End of Watch for Sgt Gary Morales

Sgt Gary Morales was killed on Thursday, February 28, 2013 in the line of duty. Gary had recently been promoted to sergeant in January and was a thirteen year veteran of the St Lucie County Sheriff's Department. Born in Bronx, NY he was also anAir Force service veteran.

Early in his law enforcement career he posed as a high school student due to his boyish good looks and keen investigative skills. During the operation he was directly responsible for the 21 arrests, providing the community with safer schools.

All who knew him said he was quite a jokester and always the life of the party. He touched so many people unbeknownst to him. He cared and passed on his smile in everything he did. One troubled youth stopped a Sherriff's Officer in a local grocery store and commented that Gary had changed his life, this event taking place days after Gary's death.

Gary was a highly accomplished law enforcement officer with leadership positions in the training department, S.W.A.T., and Fire Arms instruction. He also spearheaded the Crossfit physical fitness movement in the Sheriff's Department. Sgt Morales' departmental awards included, the Unit Citation (four awards), Exceptional Duty (three awards), and the September 2004 Hurricane Medal.
Sgt Gary Morales is survived by his wife, two young daughters, his father and mother. He lived life on his own terms and lived it to the fullest. He will be sorely missed. Rest in peace, Gary, God Bless You!
